Let's get you back on track.

I’m Gabriel Heaton, a psychiatric nurse practitioner and men’s mental health specialist based in Utah. I started Steadfast Psychiatry to fill a gap I saw in the field: men struggling in silence, getting one-size-fits-all care that missed the deeper stuff—purpose, relationships, and faith. Here, you’ll get care that’s direct, respectful, and rooted in clinical expertise. I integrate medication support, therapeutic coaching, and a values-based approach that treats the whole man—mind, body, and spirit.

“Most men don’t need fixing—they need purpose, connection, and an actionable plan forward.”

You Are More Than a Diagnosis.

Hi, I’m Gabriel Heaton, PMHNP-BC

When one part takes over—worrying, distracting, or numbing—you feel it as ADHD, anxiety, insomnia, or depression. My approach helps that part rejoin the team so your whole self can lead. We pair personalized psychiatry with practical routines and a mind–body–spirit lens to restore clarity, calm, and connection.

If meds have started to feel like a cage, let’s plan a safe off-ramp.
We’ll use medication only when it serves clear goals—and when it’s time, I provide gentle, medically supervised tapers with room to pause or step back.

All of this happens in a concierge-style setting: intentionally small caseloads, faster access, and direct support—so you’re never lost in the shuffle of a big healthcare system.

Ready for change?

Insomnia

Often a vigilant part keeps you on watch. We teach that protector to stand down with an IFS approach, circadian rhythm work, and nervous-system calming. If a short course of meds or supplements helps the reset, we’ll use them with a clear exit plan—no dependence.

Depression

Depression is rarely laziness—it’s a burdened inner part asking for help. We look for drivers—sleep/rhythm, hormones, nutrients, inflammation, stress—and rebuild movement and meaning. Medication can open a healing window; we keep it simple, measure benefit, and streamline when you’re ready.

ADHD

Attention gets tug-of-warred by competing parts. We align your system with structure, coaching, sleep, protein, and movement so focus becomes reliable. When meds fit, we set clear targets and start with straightforward options—stimulant or non-stimulant—avoiding unnecessary stacking.

Addiction

Compulsive behaviors are protective parts trying to numb pain. We meet them without shame, give them better jobs, and add accountability and purpose. Craving-reducing medications are used when helpful, alongside skills and community, with a plan for lasting freedom.

Overmedicated

Too many people get started on meds but never guided off. We review what you’re taking, clarify what’s helping, and design slow, safe tapers to reduce side effects and brain fog. Along the way, we add non-drug supports so you feel stable with the least medication necessary.

Anxiety

Anxiety is an alarm system that’s gotten too loud. We help your body downshift, practice real-life skills (breath, exposure, reframing), and reassign overprotective parts. We prefer non-habit-forming meds and reserve sedatives for rare, short-term use—with a taper plan if needed.

Integrative med management

We go beyond symptom management. Our approach combines advanced psychiatric care with comprehensive lab testing (if desired), nutritional insights, and personalized supplementation to uncover root causes and restore balance — in mind, body, and spirit.

Tailored antidepressant tapering

Ready to come off an SSRI/SNRI? We design slow, hyperbolic tapers matched to your history and goals—with micro-step dose changes, compounding/liquid options, and a pause/step-back safety net if symptoms flare. Expect regular check-ins and text-friendly support so you’re never doing this alone.

Optional faith-aligned care

If faith is an important part of your life, we can incorporate it into your treatment plan — patient-driven, optional, and clinically informed. Whether or not you choose faith integration, you’ll receive the same personalized, evidence-based care designed to help you restore balance and perform at your best.

Psychiatric care, simplified.

FAQ

What mental health services are offered?

We help adults facing depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, burnout, and trouble sleeping. Longer visits, personalized care, and support that goes beyond medication—so you can find balance and lasting relief.

Are you accepting new clients?

Yes, we are currently accepting new clients at Valiant Psychiatry. If you're ready to get started, you can request an appointment through our website. We'll guide you through the simple onboarding process and match you with care that aligns with your values and goals.

Is care aligned with my beliefs?

Absolutely. We offer psychiatric care that honors your personal values, including faith-informed treatment for those seeking support aligned with Christian/LDS principles. Your spiritual identity matters here—and we’re committed to care that respects both your mind and your faith.

What happens at the first appointment?

Your first visit includes a comprehensive assessment, open discussion of your concerns, medication review (if applicable), and a personalized care plan. Together, we’ll explore your goals and begin creating a path forward—one that aligns with your values, your faith, and your vision for healing.

Do you take insurance?

At this time we do not take insurance. However, we can provide a detailed receipt, called a “superbill” which can be submitted to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Please consult with your insurance company for any questions prior to your visit.

Why is Valiant focused on LDS/Christian psychiatric care?

Because mental health care is most effective when it speaks to your deepest values. For Christians and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, those values are rooted in faith, family, and eternal purpose. At Valiant, we don’t treat those as side notes—we place them at the center of your healing, where they belong.

Do you offer in-person visits?

Not yet—but hopefully soon. Right now, all appointments are offered via secure telehealth. We’re actively exploring options for in-person care and hope to make it available in the near future. In the meantime, you can receive high-quality, faith-informed psychiatric support from the comfort of your home.

What ages do you see?

I see teens and adults, typically ages 14 and up. For teens under 18, parental involvement is required as part of the treatment process. We believe healing happens best when families are informed, supportive, and involved.

Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Telehealth is the only way we serve clients at Valiant Psychiatry. Our entire practice is designed for flexible, secure, and accessible online care. You can meet with your provider from the comfort of your home, office, or anywhere private—no commuting, no waiting rooms.

As long as you're located in Utah, you’ll receive the same high-quality, personalized care you'd expect from an in-person clinic—just more convenient.

What is a PMHNP?

A PMHNP is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner—a licensed and board-certified medical provider who specializes in diagnosing and treating mental health conditions. PMHNPs can prescribe medications, provide psychotherapy, and create personalized treatment plans for conditions like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and more.

At Valiant Psychiatry, you’ll receive expert care from a PMHNP who integrates clinical skill with holistic guidance, treating the whole person: mind, body, and spirit.

What is IFS?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-informed, “parts-aware” therapy that treats your mind like a team—worrier, inner critic, numb-out part—led by a calm, compassionate core Self. In session we slow down, notice which part is driving, and relate to it instead of fighting it. Protective parts soften, hurt parts heal, and symptoms lose their jobs. It isn’t hypnosis, and you don’t have to re-tell trauma in detail. IFS pairs well with practical care—sleep, nutrition, skills—and, when useful, simple medications used for a season with a taper plan. Many people feel more clarity and choice within a few sessions, with deeper change building over time.

Can you help me get off my antidepressants?

After a thorough evaluation, if we determine tapering is appropriate we taper slowly and safely, making smaller cuts as doses get low (“hyperbolic” taper). A typical rhythm is 10–25% every 2–4 weeks, then slower if needed. We watch for discontinuation symptoms (dizziness, “brain zaps,” flu-ish, vivid dreams) versus true relapse (return of core depression/anxiety) and adjust—hold, slow, or step back—so you stay functional. Tools can include liquid or compounded doses, bead-counting for certain capsules, or a brief cross-taper only when switching is clearly indicated. Alongside, we support sleep, nutrition, movement, and IFS skills so protective parts feel safe letting meds go. Goal: fewer meds, steady mood, no heroics—just a clear, patient plan.

Do you serve patients who aren’t Christian?

Yes. Valiant Psychiatry provides evidence-based, values-respectful care to all people, without discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), age, disability, or ancestry.
